ECOLOGICAL PRESERVATION AT OLD KING FARM

Old King Farm is dedicated to restoring and preserving habitat for wildlife: plants, animals and elementals. We have planted thousands of seedlings for native endangered trees and shrubs along our stream of pure water to support a robust and diversified Riparian Wildlife Corridor. This will give early food sources for our Pollinator Sanctuary, whereby our honeybees stay safe and can thrive in a toxin-free environment.

Monarch Butterfly Waystation

Old King Farm is officially designated as a Monarch Butterfly Waystation. Every autumn, millions of monarch butterflies migrate from colder regions in the U.S. and Canada toward warmer climates in Mexico and California where they winter until returning back on their amazing Spring flight. The beautiful wonder that is the annual monarch migration is threatened by loss of habitat, specifically Milkweeds, in North America.

Monarch Waystations are habitats plentiful in Milkweed that offer Monarchs a refuge to obtain nectar, reproduce and sustain their long migration. Old King Farm is proud to grow and maintain a large ( 30 + acre) entirely organic and biodynamic expanse of Milkweed habitat.

Your support helps us to help conserve the exquisitely beautiful and otherwise threatened Monarch butterfly species !

Certified Wildlife Habitat

The National Wildlife Federation (NWF), America’s largest wildlife conservation and education organization has certified Old King Farm as a steward of ecologically responsible farming, offering diverse pollination sources, and generally ensuring that wildlife continues to thrive in the environment which we steward.

The NWF recognized Old King Farm in providing essential elements needed by all wildlife – natural food sources, clean water, cover and places to safely raise young.

By being involved in our many on-site programs you are sharing in the joy of providing food and shelter for a diverse range of mammals, birds, reptilians and insects.

United Plant Savers Botanical Sanctuary Network

The United Plant Savers preserve, conserve and restore native medicinal plants and their habitats in the USA and Canada, while ensuring their abundant, renewable supply for future generations. Enter the idea of the Botanical Sanctuary Network.

At Old King Farm and our sister organization
Odiyana Khandro Ling, we agree that humans must preserve and protect the habitat in which our native medicinal plant communities thrive.

We cherish many very wonderful healing plants on our lands, and are also adding medicinal herb gardens with the help of donors and volunteers. We are in the process of obtaining our UpS Botanical Sanctuary certification!

Riparian Corridor and Nature Trails

At Old King Farm we grow a number of very useful medicinal herbs — come join us in expanding our range of amazing plants and flower gardens!

Under our spiritual center Odiyana Khandro Ling, we steward large tracts of field, meadow, wetlands, rocky outcrops, and some woodlands. Each of these areas has unique plant life, which changes with the seasons and the years! Our goal is to save and maintain local Native species for people, especially kids, to learn from and enjoy God’s pharmacy for ages to come. We also wish to construct a unique log bridge designed by Leonardo Da Vinci over 500 years ago, using no metal at all!

Our farmlands immediately neighbor the Shaw Mountain Reserve, a 600-acre Nature Conservancy wilderness tract with one of the highest concentrations of biodiversity in New England! Our Fairy Trail ends close to their trail head for easy connection.
